(University of Oldenburg ) The subsurface of beaches with high waves and strong tides is a largely unknown habitat. The German Research Foundation is funding a new research group at the University of Oldenburg, Germany, which is going to explore this environment with a subterranean sampling and monitoring network. This observatory will be installed on Spiekeroog, one of the East Frisian Islands.
